School uniforms improve academic performance because they lower distractions.
"Wearing a school uniform is beneficial because while I am wearing my uniform I don't worry about what everyone else is wearing which lets me focus more in the classroom" - Brandon Ciarlante, St. Augustine Prep
- Schools that have implemented school uniforms have seen an increase in student’s academic performance. Many educators believe that students who wear school uniforms perform better academically in school. A study done in 1998 by the University of Notre Dame shows a statistical elevation in student performance among students who wear uniforms. Students are often so focused on their wardrobe that it distracts them from learning. Some experts believe that a mandatory uniform policy will remove this distraction and improve the students attention in class. They also believe that uniforms set a more serious tone within the school environment which is more conducive to learning and can improve student performance.
It is evident from these statics that having students wear school uniforms addresses the pressure of "fitting in", minimizes disruption and distractions and improves the learning environment.
